You will be seeing and hearing a lot more about the regulation of compounding and compounding pharmacies both nationally and at the state level.  Currently there are two bills in Congress which have not been heard because of the fiscal cliff talks but will most likely be reintroduced in the next Congress.  There will be changes in the practice of compounding but it could literally take years for these changes to be implemented and for pharmacies to build their infrastructures to meet the new regulations.  The end result will no doubt focus on pharmacies meeting the current national standards adopted by the USP (United States Pharmacopeia) which has responsibility for setting standards for the manufacturing and compounding of drugs.

PCAB Accredited Compounding Pharmacies Currently Meet These Standards!

Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board (PCAB) accredited pharmacies demonstrate on an ongoing basis that they comply with nationally accepted quality control, quality assurance, and quality improvement standards (USP Standards).  This is an independent and outside validation of the pharmacies.

It just makes sense to choose an accredited pharmacy for your compounding needs.  Tell your physician how important it is to you that prescriptions be filled at a PCAB accredited pharmacy.  Encourage you physician to visit the PCAB website www.pcab.org and check out the “For Prescribers” link on their homepage.
