There is a hidden current of chemistry happening in our bodies, that most of us are completely unaware of. Greater part of the nourishment we take cause our cells to end up acidic, which takes vitality off of your life! As most of us head into the fiery summer, we want to feel more energetic with full of vitality. Focusing on foods that keep your body in an alkaline state can really help you do this!
The body is continually endeavoring to keep up a pH level of slightly alkaline at 7.35, which is optimal to keep your body from permitting infections to develop. When the food you eat causes ‘shifting’ to become acidic, harmful microbes love that environment. Thus, for most of us wanting to feel healthy under hot sun, consider the foods that create an alkaline environment inside body. Common acidic foods consist largely of animal based foods such as any processed and unprocessed meat, poultry, fish, cheese, alcohol and most grains, while alkaline foods include certain fruits, nuts, legumes and vegetables. There are also foods that are considered neutral, including butter, honey and natural sugars.

Should you try the alkaline diet? Well, I stumbled across a great review and video of the diet by Meena Hart Duerson at Today. Kelly Ripa is known for promoting the Alkaline cleanse and stating it has changed her life. The video runs down the major diet of fruits and vegetables. Duerson dropped a couple pounds quickly and felt great to begin with. She tracked her pH levels and weight as a part of the process, and her report and video is worth the watch to understand more on what it means to focus on being alkaline.

In reality, there are few researches that has been done  for this type of  “diet,” but the concept of ‘shifting’ makes sense for the sake of milieu that we create in our body. Eat more alkaline  friendly foods, and you help cultivate an environment for healthy microbes to grow. Eat a more acidic diet that is heavier in fats and proteins, and you create an environment the trouble making microbes like. Wellness Works published a great video describing the process your body goes through to maintain healthy pH levels, depending on the foods you consume.
