back in control coverOver 116 million people in the United States suffer from chronic pain. The impact to patients’ lives—in terms of physical and emotional suffering, as well as lost productivity—is astounding. Recent research in neurophysiology and the psychology of pain is pointing the way to a new, vastly less expensive and more efficacious approach for not just reducing—but ELIMINATING—a patient’s chronic pain permanently.

Based on this research and his 30 years of clinical experience, Dr. Hanscom has created a unique, patient-centered approach to eliminating chronic pain and successfully treated hundreds of patients with these new techniques. Some of the patients he has treated successfully were cured in weeks after having endured decades of intense, chronic pain even after multiple surgeries and other treatments.

In Back in Control, Dr. Hanscom focuses on an aspect of chronic pain that the medical world has largely overlooked. You must calm your nervous system in order to get better. Beyond any other book about back pain, Back in Control reveals how to quiet a turbocharged central nervous system and make a full recovery. His life-changing system has helped hundreds of patients heal their pain. These patients’ stories, as well as his own, show that you can take charge of your care and set yourself on the road to a healthy, rich and full life.

Dr. Hanscom is a Seattle-based, board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in the surgical correction complex spine problems in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. He has expertise in adult and pediatric spinal deformities such as scoliosis and kyphosis. A significant part of his practice is devoted to performing corrective surgery on patients who have had multiple prior spine surgeries. He believes that most spine surgery should never have been performed.
