Over 116 million people in the United States suffer from chronic pain. The impact to patients’ lives—in terms of physical and emotional suffering, as well as lost productivity—is astounding. Dr. David Hanscom has developed a new approach to treating chronic pain sufferers based on recent research in neurophysiology and the psychology of pain. His life-changing system has helped hundreds of patients heal their pain. His book, Back in Control, reveals how chronic pain patients can quiet a turbocharged central nervous system and make a full recovery.
Chronic pain can limit your everyday activities and make it hard to work. It can also affect how involved you are with friends and family members. Co-workers, family, and friends may have to do more than their usual share when you cannot do the things you normally do. Unwanted feelings – such as frustration, resentment, and stress – are often a result. In this podcast, Dr. Gaston Cornu-Labat discusses the interplay of pain and stress.
Pain Neutralization Technique (PNT) is a non-pharmacological, non-invasive technique for pain neutralization. The technique involves gentle tissue manipulation to “turn off” the nerve-based reflexes that perpetuate trigger points and muscle pain. In this podcast, Dr. Gaston Cornu-Labat discusses how the Pain Neutralization Technique works and provides several examples of how it used in clinical practice. He has recently written a book, called PNT: An Unprecedented Revolution in Pain Management.
People with joint conditions such as arthritis often take over the counter NSAIDs such as ibuprofen to relieve joint pain and inflammation. However, taking oral NSAIDs often can be harmful to your health. The FDA black box warning states that NSAIDs may cause an increased risk of heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure, gastric ulcers, and gastric bleeding. Transdermal creams or gels can be used to deliver NSAIDs through the skin into underlying joints or tissues to relieve pain and inflammation. They offer the advantage of being more effective at relieving pain and with fewer harmful side effects.
