Dr. Michael Kaplan is a board-certified Naturopathic Physician and the co-director of the SIBO Specialty Center at the Tahoma Clinic North Seattle, where he brings his experience and passion to dealing with problems of digestive health.
He was inspired to pursue natural medicine after being diagnosed with celiac disease at the age of 19. This life experience gave him a keen interest in helping people with digestive complaints and autoimmune conditions. Dr. Kaplan specializes in the treatment of people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and celiac disease, with an emphasis on cases of celiac disease that do not respond to traditional gluten free diets.
Dr. Kaplan applies this expertise in his dual role as a consulting physician for Meridian Valley Laboratory in Tukwila, WA. There, he trains doctors from the US and Canada in the safe and effective use of Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy. Dr. Kaplan’s extensive experience in functional medicine is sought after as he assists other physicians with their most complex cases. Dr. Kaplan facilitated the launch of Meridian Valley Lab’s Blood Viscosity test, a critical bio-marker for cardiovascular disease.
Dr. Kaplan graduated from Bastyr University in 2005 with honors from his work as a Staff/Student Counselor while in the Naturopathic Medicine program. He received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Kaplan also helped formulate the Zing Nutrition Bars (www.zingbars.com) and was the company’s first CEO.
